Our story

After years of successful CPA & tax practice work, our Founding Partner, Michael Thompson, saw a growing need for independent forensic analysis and expert witnesses in the area of Family Law. Understanding this progressively growing area of needs early in her career, Michael’s daughter, Megan Thompson jumped headfirst into becoming one of the youngest and most well-respected Forensic Accountants and Expert Witnesses in the Bay Area. Now the Managing Partner of Thompson Accounting, Megan leads and mentors a growing staff of accountants and has earned a rapidly growing client base.

Megan Thompson, Managing Partner

Megan Thompson is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and is Certified in Financial Forensics by the AICPA (CFF). She is a trusted and experienced expert witness with a proven track record in litigation support including:

Marital standard of living
Business valuations
Analysis of income available for support
Stock option and retirement plan allocations
Separate property tracing
Moore/Marsden calculations
Pereira/Van Camp determinations.

As an active member of the CalCPA organization, Megan is a regular speaker at conferences, a former President of the local chapter and currently serves as a trustee on the Education Foundation board. When not working, Megan enjoys spending time with her family, hosting dinners with friends, traveling, local wineries and live music.

Michael S. Thompson, Founding Partner

Michael S. Thompson CPA is a recognized authority on the subject of accounting, valuation and forensic analysis. Mr. Thompson has over 40 years experience as a CPA and 30 years in consulting and acting in the role of expert witness.

Mr. Thompson currently manages a smaller case load and is qualified as an expert witness in twelve counties throughout the state of California. He has been a frequent speaker on tax and financial subjects as well as having designed and taught accounting, taxation and industry analysis classes for the banking industry.

Mr. Thompson’s areas of expertise in forensic accounting & expert witness support include:

Business valuations
Lost profits and wages
Analysis of income available for support
Stock option, RSU and retirement plan allocations
Tracing
Moore/Marsden calculations and Pereira / Van Camp determinations.

He is the former president of the San Jose Chapter of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts and is also a member of the Institute of Business Appraisers. Mr. Thompson also served as a commissioner on the Santa Clara County Assessment Appeals Board and as a member of the San Martin Planning Advisory Committee.
